Summer Solstice - Dot Style

06/21/14 - 6 pm

06/21/14 - Noon

I had every intention of actually leaving my “castle” this past weekend and had made plans with a girlfriend to go downtown and participate in the Anchorage 2014 Summer Solstice soiree.

However, when I woke up at 6 am on Saturday and opened my bedroom door I saw that it was not as light as I thought it should have been in the living room so went out on the balcony and it was grey overcast and pouring rain (rain you could actually see and hear) and chilly.  At that point, I thought it was appropriate to flavor the coffee I had just made with Bailey’s and sat outside and drank a cup while I contemplated life.  Then the wind shifted and I started getting wet so went inside and settled in to watch one of my Netflix movies, “Enders Game”, which I thought, was really good.  I was snuggled in pretty good and just didn’t seem right to jump up from my nest so made more coffee and watched my other Netflix movie, “Mud”, which I thought was really, really good but then again, I will watch anything with Matthew McConaughey.

So, before 11 am, I had watched two movies then decided I better get busy and do something productive so did a workout tape, cleaned my apartment and took a nap.  When I woke up, the weather was still the same so thought it was pretty set in but took a shower (my shower was taken aback & I am sure it was thinking “hey, what the hell are you doing in here?  You never come in here on the weekends or holidays”) just in case it did clear up so all I had to do was get dressed and go downtown.  And certainly a glass of wine wouldn’t hurt anything either.   I then got a text from my friend saying she hoped I didn’t think she was lame but she thought she was going to just stay home, clean house, watch tv and drink wine.  Pretty ironic, I thought, that we were both doing the same thing.  Naturally, at almost 6 pm, the clouds broke and the sun came out but neither of us wanted to change our plans so my personal wine and pj party was in full swing for the evening.

06/21/14 - 10 pm
My chef (me) prepared a nice pasta dish (whole grain rotini with onions, garlic, capers, artichokes and grated parmesan cheese), spinach & arugula salad (with diced onions, unsalted sunflower seeds, craisins and crumbled bleu cheese)and dessert was chocolate covered strawberry ice cream with a balsamic glaze and a dusting of coco powder.  The evening’s entertainment was a fun solo Wii karaoke session with periodic breaks so I could go out on the balcony and contemplate life again.  For me, it was a wonderful, fun 2014 Summer Solstice Celebration!!
