Super Bowl 48 Célibataire

Célibataire is the French word for single so this is just my fancy pants way of saying “Super Bowl: Party of One”.

The picture above is of my Super Bowl food supplies I picked up.  I wanted wings but not wings (they’re too little) so got drumsticks and cooked them in my “Secret Dot Sauce”.  I wanted Rotel so got the smallest block of Velveeta and used half of it (divided the other half into half and vacuum packed them for later), used half of the sausage (divided the rest into afore mentioned halves) but used the whole can of Rotel.  I don’t eat chips so got tortillas to eat my Rotel with.  Got my favorite beer (don’t usually buy beer for home-too many calories) and of course, 100% Agave Tequila (Sorry, Grey Goose, but Super Bowl is a beer sport).

This year’s Super Bowl game is the first one I can remember watching alone.  Prior to moving to Alaska in November 2010, I attended phenomenal Super Bowl parties in Tulsa and from 2008-2010 in Seattle.  Part of my delight in years past, was just spending time with good friend and eating amazing food.  When I moved to Alaska, I watched with my Father.  We would drink beer and order a pizza or I would go grab wings somewhere.  Even though my Father was more of a college football fan, he would watch the Super Bowl with me as he probably figured it was easier than me whining about not watching it.

I did have several invites for this year but decided to stay home.  I have been getting over being sick and do not believe in taking sick days (for everyone else, yes. For me, NO) so was looking forward to getting some rest over the weekend.  Plus, at home, I get to watch in my jammies and drink and not worry about driving home.   In addition, I did have Flat Stanley to entertain.

That ends the interesting portion of the day…

Super Bowl 48, for me, ended up being a snoozefest.  In fact, I dozed off for half of the second quarter. I love football and part of that is watching the competition of the sport and that element was not present for this game.  I thought it was going to be a nail biting, edge-of-your-seat game and it was almost like Denver didn’t show up to play.  I am a Seahawks fan but also a Peyton fan so thought either way it would be a game for the ages.  I don’t particularly like routs.

Though I did find it odd, interesting and entertaining to see Broadway Joe Namath still wearing the same fur coat from back in “his day”.

I also thought the commercials were (yawn) boring and unimaginative to say the least.  It did appear as if several companies were going for some type of artistic high concept idea but they missed the target by miles and bored me more than the other commercials.  Not sure what happened, but if I was in charge, I would completely revamp my demographic focus groups for the commercial development and get some actual football fans in the group.  Not sure what the parameters were for the development but to me, you talked to a whole lot of folks who don’t like football which means they wouldn’t know a funny commercial if it bit them in their hoity-toity ass.
However, to get to watch Bruno Mars perform at halftime was worth it.   Folks, this is what natural musical talent is all about.  It was the best halftime show in years.

So, until August (I know it is preseason, but it is football so I’m watching), I will miss you, football!
